Notes on the show
Curated by Kwame Write Aidoo, and produced by Inkfluent, the Vocal Portraits albums feature many talented poets, storytellers and musicians from Africa, Europe and North America. Ghanaian poets have been making great waves in recent years. With slam and live poetry thriving, opportunity as ever elusive, a few years ago the artists saw the need to start recording and releasing their work together. Three issues of Vocal Portraits later and the goodness keeps on coming—there will be a fourth edition in 2017.
Kwame Write is also behind the Nkabom festival in 2016—the first literary festival of its kind in Ghana bringing together wordsmiths, musicians and artists over the month of August.
The poets this month woven into a tapestry of conscious hip hop, afrobeat and electronica grooves from Africa and beyond—Lamine Fofana, Blitz the Ambassador, Juls, Renegades of Jazz, Nickodemus, and Placid Larry. Plus, a La Danza regular, Mutombo Da Poet.
